Message from the President of the Hong Kong Stroke Society HKSS

Dear Colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the 1st Asian Pacific Conference Against Stroke to be held on 17-18 April, 2004. (The original date in June 2003 was postoned due to SARS.)

Stroke is a major cause of death and disability in the Asian Pacific region. It has long been recognized that the distribution of stenotic lesions, the incidence of cerebral hemorrhage,Moyamoya disease, and deep venous thrombosis, as well as the response to anticoagulation and other medications are different from other regions. Despite this, there has been paucity of information interchange among stroke specialists in this region.

There have been many exciting advances in cerebrovascular disease, in imaging, medical, surgical, and interventional technics. We believe that this meeting will disseminate knowledge about current and emerging management of problems peculiar to our region, as well as problems common worldwide.

June is a great time to be in Hong Kong with gourmet food for the minde and the body. We look forward to welcoming you.

Dr. Chen-ya Huang

President, Hong Kong Stroke Society
